Carrie Mae Weems
Carrie Mae Weems' work represented the how society viewed black America, within the context of how they were portrayed in various situations. Particularly within racial context, her work signified the celebration of black culture and the arrival of what is known as our President Barack Obama. She had a definite interest in other facets of art, such as dance and theater, but her earlier work however, told a different tale of the certain aspects that has been known as slavery that was very immanent in black culture. Weems wanted to reinvent the appearance that has been brought on slaves in the past. Almost to a point that she wanted to glorify them and portray them in a different, more acceptable light.
