Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman's work is unique in a sense that she tries to capture the basic fundamentals art has to offer. An abundant amount of her work incorporates a unique new outlook on how art can be done in modern times. Her use of poses, coinciding with the unique make up bring out a new outlook on how photography, especially in terms of a still photo image can be interpreted by the common audience. Particularly, with the "clown" series she has produced, facial expressions along with an abstract lay out of the various arrays of clown costumes produces a mixed emotion from viewers that may be interested in her work. Along with choosing clowns as a subject, her make up of producing still images that traditionally have been painted has been revolutionary in their own right. It is unique in a sense that no one has done that prior, or has looked upon still photographic images as a mere substitute to traditional self-portrait paintings.
